Pierceton Fire Department Helps Victims in Kokomo
PIERCETON — Recently, the Pierceton Fire Department participated in celebrating Pierceton’s 150th Celebration during the weekend of Aug. 26, 27 and 28. The fire department truly enjoyed each and every interaction they had with all of our community over the weekend. During which, the department received overwhelming words of encouragement in regards to the continuous work they strive to do here in Pierceton.
Throughout the celebration, the fire department worked with local residents and vendors in a food drive to be donated to the victims of the recent EF3 tornado that struck Kokomo. During the weekend, donations were received of boxed and canned food items along with assortments of miscellaneous household items. The department also was able to collect a cash donation of $514.31. This money was used to buy non-perishable items to be added to those received throughout the weekend. Members of the fire department were truly reminded of the kind, generous residents that live within the community that they serve as the community all collaborated together to help others.
These items were then delivered to Kokomo on Monday, Aug. 30. Upon arrival to the Salvation Army, 3742 South Reed Road, members of the fire department were met by Operations Manager Kyle Sparling. He expressed what the donations meant to the people of his community. He further explained how the items donated would be dispersed throughout the locations that the tornado had wiped away during its devastating path through their neighborhoods.
During the visit, he expressed that any Kokomo resident who is in need of assistance can contact them directly by visiting the Salvation Army at the address listed above or by contacting them via telephone at (765) 456-3846. He also expressed that although the donations were greatly appreciated, there is also still a great need of cleaning supplies needed to help in restoring homes and household items that were damaged by the rain, sewage water and general debris. Anyone wishing to donate, he suggested contacting him directly or the local Red Cross as support teams continue to be sent to help in the restoration process.
