Wawasee Sports Wrap: Sept. 6
C-Team Volleyball
The C-team volleyball squad was back in action Tuesday evening at East Noble. The girls downed the Knights to move to 3-3 on the season. Aundreya Wegener led the team with 21 digs. Grace Morrison had 10 digs and 23 assists.
Boys Cross Country
The boys cross country team ran at Ox Bow on Tuesday night and was unable to come out with a victory as both Concord and Goshen topped the Warriors.
Spencer Hare took third overall for Wawasee with a time of 18:03. Luke Griner was fourth with a 18:11. Bennett Hoffert (20:00) and Sam Griner (20:26) were the other two top-20 finishers for the Warriors.
The boys are now 3-4 on the season and 0-4 in the NLC, they run next Tuesday at home with Northridge and NorthWood.
Girls Cross Country
The girls runners competed at Ox Bow Tuesday and split the meet with a win over Goshen but a loss to Concord.
Elizabeth Zorn (21:45) took third overall to pace Wawasee while McKenzie Smith was fourth at 22:01. Aubrey Kuhn took sixth in the meet with a 22:21. Bailey Schroeder was the last top-10 finisher for Wawasee with a time of 23:27. Lila Gregory (24:43) and Katie Haines (24:59) rounded out the top-20 finishers for Wawasee.
Wawasee (5-2, 2-2) hosts NorthWood and Northridge next Tuesday.
Girls Golf
The Wawasee girls golf team topped Elkhart Central and Fairfield Tuesday evening. The Warriors shot a season-low score of 184 to best the Blazers (195) and Falcons (204) at Maxwelton Golf Club.
Madison Beaman shot a 42 to pace the home team. Aubrey Schmeltz was close behind with a 43. Jadison Rostochak had an impressive 46 while Zoe White (56) and Lesley Tayagua (53) rounded out the scores for the ladies.
Central was led by Zoe Adams’ 48 while Fairfield’s top score was a 45 from Jalee Nunemaker.
Wawasee (11-7) hosts Fremont this Thursday.
Boys Tennis
The Wawasee boys tennis team continued a rough stretch of play as it hosted Goshen Tuesday evening. The visiting RedHawks made quick work of the Warriors, winning 5-0.
Dylan Staley fell at No. singles 6-0, 6-3. Hugh Birky topped Nate Haines at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-3. At No. singles it was a rare defeat for Nate Perek as he fell 6-4, 6-1 to Simon Myers. At No. 1 doubles Tim Conley and Evan Krueger fell 6-2, 6-1 to Logan Troyer and Bobby Sessa. Gram Perek and Mason Gray lost 6-1, 6-0 to Diego Torres and Nathanael Wertz at No. 2 doubles.
Wawasee is now 6-5 overall and 0-3 in the NLC. The Warriors compete at Northridge this Thursday.
