Leesburg Mill Rezoning Recommended For Approval
WARSAW — Now that the Old Leesburg Mill has been de-annexed from the town of Leesburg, it has no official zoning classification within Kosciusko County.
During the regular monthly meeting of the Kosciusko County Area Planning Commission Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 7, in Warsaw, the APC recommended approval for a zoning classification of commercial. The mill had been used commercially for several years. It is located on Old SR 15, just south of Harper Road in Leesburg.
County commissioners will consider the petition at their Tuesday, Sept. 20, meeting.
In other business, the APC recommended approval for Candace Smythe to rezone .56 acres of land from commercial to residential. The parcel is on the north side of Epworth Forest Road, about 200 feet east of SR 13 in North Webster.
Dan Richard, area planning director, noted the property was originally zoned commercial and a bait shop, among other businesses, had been located there. But now it is used as a single family residence.
Smythe said she has lived there since 2000 and when she went to a bank to apply for a home equity loan she was told the loan could not be approved with a commercial zoning classification on the land. North Webster Town Council will consider the petition at their Tuesday, Sept. 20, meeting.
Also during the APC meeting, the planning commission recommended approval for a roadway vacation in the Roy Hohman subdivision as petitioned by Dustin Bussard, Scott Egolf and Justin Hurt. It is for a small portion of a platted drive on the north side of Yellow Creek Lake. This particular roadway has been vacated one piece at a time so the actual physical location of the road to the north can be reestablished.
The APC also recommended approval for vacating a portion of an unimproved roadway in the Woodland Hills subdivision near the west side of Goose Lake south of Warsaw. Cary Lewis is the petitioner.
County commissioners will consider both roadway vacation petitions at their Tuesday, Sept. 20, meeting.
