REAL Services, Kosciusko County Receives IHCDA Grant
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) recently approved awards of more than $4.6 million to various Indiana municipalities as a part of the Community Block Grants, Owner Occupied Rehabilitation projects. REAL Services, Kosciusko County was awarded $105,000.
REAL Services will use this funding to expand its Aging in Place initiative in Kosciusko County to allow homeowners over the age of 55 to remain in healthy homes as long as possible. The Aging in Place program of REAL Services began in 2007.
Through this project, REAL Services will provide repairs and accessibility modifications that homeowners would not otherwise be able to afford and also connect homeowners to other necessary social services that will assure their continued independence.
The program targets low income seniors. The far reaching impact of this home modification program is that seniors who otherwise would be “prematurely” removed from their homes, placed in a nursing facility or need to move to an environment that would better accommodate their physical dwelling needs, are able to stay in their own home for some time to come. This program addresses the growing number seniors in our community and their ability to remain as healthy and independent as possible for as long as possible in their home and in their neighborhood.
REAL Services will implement home safety modification jobs including: bathtub and shower modifications, exterior ramps, stairs, railings, grab bars, kitchen accessibility and laundry room accessibility specific to a senior’s needs.
