Rose Homer Propels Cubs
SOUTH BEND – Matt Rose hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to a 7-4 win over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday.
Dayton had runners on first and third in the top of the ninth, but Nick Senzel struck out to end the game.
The home run by Rose, part of a three-run inning, gave the Cubs a 6-4 lead before Tyler Alamo hit an RBI single later in the inning.
Jared Cheek (2-0) got the win in relief while Lucas Benenati (0-2) took the loss in the Midwest League game.
For the Dragons, Senzel was a home run short of the cycle, scoring three runs.
With the win, South Bend improved to 13-5 against Dayton this season. The two teams continue the series Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
