Triton Sports Wrap: Aug. 30
Boys Tennis
Triton got back on the winning track Tuesday with a 5-0 win at LaVille.
Triton lost just one game in its singles courts, with both Mace Eads and Carter Kuntz pitching shutouts against Jordan Karczewski and Doug Cashen. Aaron Stichter won his match against Shawn Herne love and one.
Triton doubles tandem Grant Eib and Tyler Heckaman rolled over Dan Clingaman and Zach Rutherford love and one while Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler topped Connor Carlisle and Sam Contreras two and four.
The Trojans move to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference, and host Plymouth Wednesday afternoon.
Volleyball
Triton picked up a nice road win in the HNAC with a 3-1 triumph at Knox.
Triton won game one 25-21, but Knox rallied to take game two 25-20. A close game three had Triton come out on top 25-22, and the clincher was 25-14 Trojans.
Five different Trojans led the team in stats, paced by the 12 kills from Nicole Sechrist. Hannah Wanemacher had 27 assists, Tyana Spencer had 10 digs and Charlotte Morris had four blocks. Courtney Jennings added nine kills in the win.
Triton (4-2, 1-1 HNAC) will host Culver Thursday night.
Cross Country
Bremen loaded up the top spots in the boys and girls races Tuesday, topping Triton in the head-to-head matchup. Bremen won the boys race 22-43 and the girls race 20-41.
Logan Fish was the top runner Tuesday, leading the Lions with a 19:10, pulling away from Triton’s Bailey Watkins, who was second at 19:42. Bremen’s Jacob Nykiel was third at 19:53.
Triton’s next four were Russell Reichard (5, 20:25), Shaun Honeycutt (7, 20:41), Brock Watkins (14, 22:36) and Josiah Page (15, 22:37).
Emma Hundt was tops in the girls race, timing at 22:35 with teammate Ellen Fox second at 22:58. Triton’s Whytnie Miller was third at 23:46.
Triton’s scorers were Briana Wilhite (5, 24:34), Baylee McIntire (8, 24:45), Abigail Powell (12, 25:51) and Aimee Gladieux (13, 26:15).
LaVille participated in the races, but didn’t have enough runners to factor in the team standings.
Triton will compete Saturday at the Caston Invitational.
