Donald E. Ringler — UPDATED
Donald E. “Gene” Ringler, 87, Syracuse, passed away at 1:56 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016 at Warsaw Meadows in Warsaw.
He was born on June 12, 1929 in Syracuse to Donald Edward and Alta Blanche (Kolberg) Ringler.
He attended Syracuse High School and was a United States Army veteran. He lived in Syracuse until 1974 and then returned to Syracuse in 2003 from Fort Myers, Fla. He retired as road truck driver for Gateway Transportation Co. in La Crosse, Wis. after 30 years.
He was a member of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel in Syracuse, American Legion #223 in Syracuse, Eagles Lodge in Syracuse, Moose Lodge in Fort Meyers Beach, FL, and former member of the V.F.W. Post #1342 in Syracuse. He enjoyed fishing, boating, Chicago Cubs, and the Harlem Globetrotters.
He is survived by two sons: Dennis Ringler and Douglas (Cheryl) Ringler, Syracuse; one daughter: Deborah (J.R.) Miller, Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren; one sister: Virginia Jones, Milford; half sister: Marilyn Rhodes, North Webster.
He was preceded by in death by his parents and grandson: Christopher Ringler.
Visitation will be from 2–4 and 6–8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of church officiating. Military graveside rites will be follow in the North Webster Cemetery by Syracuse American Legion Post 223.
