Warsaw Sports Wrap: Aug. 27
Boys Soccer
The Penn at Warsaw boys soccer varsity match Saturday was postponed due to the inclement weather.
The Warsaw junior varsity team did top the Kingsmen 2-0 in a shortened contest prior to the bad weather.
Warsaw will host Concord in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup Wednesday with the JV game at 5 p.m. and the varsity contest to follow.
Frosh Volleyball
The Warsaw freshman volleyball team continued its outstanding season Saturday with a championship performance.
The Tigers went 4-0 to win the Michigan City Invitational title. Warsaw beat Kankakee Valley 25-12, 25-15 in the championship match. Warsaw defeated New Prairie 25-15, 25-16, South Bend Adams 25-14, 25-14 and Valparaiso 25-15, 25-19 earlier in the tourney.
Katie Schmidt had a big day for the champions. Schmidt packed up 22 service aces during the tournament to go with 64 assists, 14 digs and two kills.
Sierra Derossett and Sophia Long each totaled 16 kills to pace the offense. McKenna Hawblitzel and Gwyn Bellamy each had 11 kills, while Brooklyn Slone had nine, Kaia Hummitch four and Delaney Walters three.
Allie McGuire and Hawblitzel each finished the day with eight aces. Kylie Prater had six, while Derossett had four and Slone two.
Prater paced the defense with a total of 48 digs in the tourney. McGuire finished with 45, Hawblitzel 33 and Derossett 21. Slone had 14 digs, while Julia Crater had four, Walters three and Reagan Roulo three.
Warsaw improves to 8-0 on the season. The frosh Tigers open Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday at Elkhart Memorial at 6 p.m.
