Cubs Offensive Woes Continue
SOUTH BEND – Great Lakes continued their playoff push by beating South Bend Saturday at Four Winds Field 7-2.
The Loons, leaders for the Eastern Division second half wild card, erased an early one run deficit by scoring single runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings while picking up two runs in the fourth and sixth.
South Bend Cubs starting pitcher Casey Bloomquist took the loss after throwing five and a third innings and allowing seven hits and six runs (four earned).
The Cubs took a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning on Eddy Martinez’s tenth home run of the season.
South Bend, who has clinched a playoff birth, has now lost three in a row and seven of their last twelve games.
Game three of the four game set is at Four Winds Field Sunday at 2:05pm(ET). The Cubs will start Duane Underwood Junior (0-0, 0.00) who will make his third start with South Bend.
