Valley Sports Wrap: Aug. 25
Girls Golf
Manchester topped the group again Thursday, besting Whitko, Tippecanoe Valley and host North Miami Thursday afternoon at Peru Municipal Golf Club. The Squires, a day after beating Triton and Bremen in a trio, took the quad with a 190, far ahead of Whitko’s 245, Valley’s 246 and North Miami’s 331 in the Three Rivers Conference matchup.
Lydia Little topped Manchester’s varsity, shooting a 44 with Kelsey Eichenauer one back at 45. Karly Eichenauer posted a 50 while Sam Kissell and Leiah Brandenburg each finished at 51.
Valley had Victoria Biddle again near the top of the leaderboard, finishing at 46. Blake McBrier came home at 55, with Jordan Krotke at 72, Bethany Johnson at 73 and Jade VanMeter at 80.
Whitko had Holly Hathaway lead the team with a 54 and Claire Reiff one back at 55. Bailey Wright shot a 63, Makayla Compton a 73 and Lily Ousley an 87.
Volleyball
A well-contested match Thursday night had host Wabash beat Tippecanoe Valley, 3-2, in Three Rivers Conference action.
Abby Betten had a big night for Valley with 14 kills and 22 digs, while Shayleigh Shriver had four aces. Emily Peterson and Taneisha Brown each had 19 assists.
The Valley JV beat Wabash 25-23, 25-21. Gabby Olson and Hannah Jansma each had six kills, Sarah Myers had eight assists, Allison Miller had eight digs and Allison Betten had four aces.
Valley (3-2, 0-1 TRC) will play Saturday in the Manchester Tournament.
Boys Soccer
Tippecanoe Valley won its second match at home this week, beating Caston, 4-1, Thursday afternoon.
Tom Solano opened the goal scoring in the 22nd minute for Tippecanoe Valley, which had Manny Dominguez touch one home just three minutes later. The Vikings had Ivan Santiago and Alvaro Guiterrez tuck home penalty kicks in the second half.
Caston’s Luke Lowe scored its only goal in the second half.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Fabian Mar locked down his second win with 12 saves on 16 Caston shots. Valley, despite the lopsided score, had just seven shots in the match. Noah Colvin made four saves for the Comets.
The Vikings move to 2-2 on the season.
The Tippecanoe Valley JV also won, 1-0, in an abbreviated match. Alex Santiago scored his first career goal at the 15 minute mark. Keeper Zach Landis was credited with four saves.
Valley plays again Tuesday at Manchester.
