Helen “Joan” Wysong, 88, Wolf Lake, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at North Ridge Village Nursing. Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Cromwell, she was the daughter of Merle and Ruby (Knox) Bennett.
A lifetime resident of Wolf Lake, Joan graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the class of 1945. On Dec. 28, 1946, Joan married Allen L. “Bud” Wysong. She had worked for the United States Post Office for over 25 years, retiring from the Ligonier Post Office. She had been a member of the Wolf Lake United Methodist Church and the Wolf Lake VFW Post 4717 Ladies Auxiliary. Not only was she a dedicated and loving wife, she was a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma.
Survivors include her sons: Rick (Katie) Wysong, Wolf Lake; and Bob (Mary) Wysong, Cromwell; brothers: John (Shirley) Bennett, Roundup, Mont.; and Steve Bennett, Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband in 2003.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Graveside funeral services will 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Thorn Cemetery, Ormas, with Pastor Dan Carlson officiating. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Wysong’s memory to the VFW Post 4717.
