Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 23
Girls Soccer
The Wawasee girls soccer team bounced back after its first loss of the season. The girls topped Manchester 1-0 Tuesday night.
Hannah Lancaster scored the game-winning goal with 21 minutes remaining in the second half to help lift the Warriors to victory. Manchester had more shots than Wawasee (13-11) but Kayla White was stout in goal, recording 10 saves for the Warriors and earning her first shut-out of the season.
“We won a close, hard-fought game,” stated Wawasee coach Doug Heinisch. “Not our best game offensively. Our defense played a solid game throughout and did not give up any quality chances to the opponent. Kendra Doerr deserves special recognition for strong play.”
With the win Wawasee now sits at 3-1 on the season, already matching its win total from 2015. The Warriors are back in action Thursday at home against Bethany Christian.
Volleyball
Wawasee was swept by Central Noble at home Tuesday night. Olivia Clouse led the team with five kills while Madie Wilson recorded 24 digs.
Wawasee (1-3) travels to Bethany Christian on Thursday.
The Wawasee JV team moved to 6-1 on the year with a sweep of the visiting Cougars. Caitlin Wortinger and Elizabeth Kleopfer each had eight digs for the Warriors. Bethany Flannery had 13 assists.
