Ball State Unveils Red Helmets
MUNCIE — Two years ago, the Ball State football team added a black helmet to its uniform palette to go along with its traditional white helmet. Yesterday at a team meeting before practice, a red helmet was unveiled to the team. It will see its first action in the home opener against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 17.
The red helmet features the Cardinal head logo on the right side and the ‘Ball State’ wordmark on the left. There is a large white stripe outlined in black going down the middle of the helmet. White, red and black facemasks give the team slight variations to the helmet look.
This will be the first time Ball State will strap on red helmets since 1970. From 1971 through 2013, the Cardinals exclusively wore a white helmet adorned with a Cardinal head logo. A black helmet was introduced in 2014.
