Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 22
JV Football
The Wawasee JV football team took to the field for the first time this season in a game at East Noble. A thrilling contest ended with the Knights coming out with a 49-48 win over the Warriors. Aaron Evans tossed five touchdown passes for Wawasee. Zak Linnemeier scored three touchdowns, including a pick six.
“That was one heck of a game, we just ran out of time,” stated JV coach Andrew Hepler.
Wawasee (0-1) travels to West Noble this Saturday.
Boys Soccer
The Wawasee boys soccer team picked up a much needed win Monday evening. The Warriors blanked Hamilton 9-0 to get their first victory of the season.
“It was great to see our boys find the net tonight,” stated head coach Jordan Sharp. “They learned how to trust each other and play unselfish soccer tonight.”
Carter Jones led the scoring attack with a hat-trick and added a pair of assists. Chris Pena had two goals of his own and two assists. Hunter Magiera, Blayne Faught, Zeb Glon and Brady Wickersham all had a goal for Wawasee. Braedon Schlabach added an assist for the Warriors.
Wawasee (1-2-1) will travel to West Noble on Thursday.
Girls Golf
The Wawasee girls golf team won its first conference match Monday night. The ladies traveled to Maple Crest to take on Goshen and won 210-250.
Wawasee’s Aubrey Schmeltz was the match medalist with a 48. Wawasee’s scores were rounded out by Madison Beaman’s 50, Zoe White’s 53, Jadison Rostochak’s 59 and Lesley Tayagua’s 59.
Goshen was led by Olivia Thomas’ 59.
Wawasee (7-3, 1-0) will play at Concord with Plymouth on Wednesday.
