Clarice Sloan — UPDATED
Clarice A. Sloan, 80, Columbia City, passed away at 2:23 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at her home. Born Dec. 30, 1935, in Antwerp, OH, she was the daughter of Gillis and Madele (Muir) Jackson.
Growing up, Clarice traveled around a lot but moved to Ft. Wayne and would work at GE in various departments for almost 30 years, retiring as an executive secretary in 1992. While on a dinner break, she met Dudley D. Sloan in 1963 and they would later marry on April 8, 1965. Besides gardening, playing badminton and euchre, she enjoyed camping and fishing after retiring and spending weeks down at Lake Cumberland.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years: Dudley Sloan; children: Debbie (Raymond) Dugan, Woodburn; Terry (Francine) Weaver, Albany, Ky.; and Robbin (Stephen) Rice, Ft. Wayne; six grandchildren: and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son: Gillis W. Arend in 1984.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Chaplin T.J. Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her memory to either Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
