Sophia H. Long-UPDATED
Sophia Haley Long, 6, Pierceton, passed away at 10:02 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born June 1, 2010, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Christopher Leon Long and Molly Kirsten (Long) Long.
Sophia grew up on her family’s farm in Pierceton. On June 27, 2010, she was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Church. Sophia was a happy young girl with a beautiful smile that could light up the room. She will be remembered for her signature look with a bow in her long beautiful hair. Sophia enjoyed writing in her notebooks, trying on shoes, playing basketball, dancing, watching Blue’s Clues and reading Blue’s books, and playing with her big brother. She attended church with her family at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw. Sophia went to preschool at Pierceton Good Beginnings and Sacred Heart. Most recently she attended Lighthouse Autism Center where she loved all her therapists. She enjoyed weekly therapy at Joe’s Kids, Warsaw, and riding her favorite horse, Peanut, at Magical Meadows.
She leaves behind a loving and caring family including her parents: Chris and Molly Long; brother: Isaac Long; maternal grandparents: Larry and Linda Long, South Whitley; aunts: Kathy (Layne) Evans; and Julie (Dana) Hewitt, both of Pierceton; uncle: Matt (Jessica) Long, South Whitley; and seven cousins. She was preceded in death by her older brother: Samuel Long on June 25, 2007; and paternal grandparents: Leon and Sally Long.
Visitation is 1:15-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City, with a rosary at 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, with visitation one hour prior. Father Phil DeVolder will be officiating. She will be buried beside her brother and grandparents at Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made in her honor to Joe’s Kids.
