Warsaw Sports Wrap: August 17
Boys Tennis
A long night was well worth it for the Warsaw boys tennis team.
The Tigers outlasted the rain and visiting Huntington North to start their season with a 4-1 win.
The match, which was delayed by rain, also included a three-set contest at No. 2 singles.
David Homme led the way for Warsaw with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Andrew Gauger took a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles for the Tigers.
Warsaw swept the doubles action as Justin Stout and Ryan Wettschurack won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. The No. 2 duo of Hayden Steger and Spencer Britton notched a straight set win too.
Nick May collected the lone point for the Vikings with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Colton Lind at No. 1 singles.
The Warsaw JV team posted a 7-3 win. Winners for the JV Tigers were Bailey Burt, Kyler Bartol and Reuben Williams in singles play and the doubles teams of Ethan Hoff and Nolan Knight, Caleb Williams and Brian Elliott Jr., Nick Marsch and Brandon Chan and Jake Kauffman and Jarrett Orr.
Warsaw will travel to Mishawaka to face Penn Thursday.
Girls Golf
The Warsaw girls golf home match versus Huntington North at the Stonehenge Golf Club was canceled half way through due to flooding on the course.
The Tigers return to action Thursday versus Tippecanoe Valley and Wabash at the Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester.
Freshman Volleyball
The Warsaw Freshman Volleyball Team defeated Fort Wayne Snider in the Tiger Den 25-5, 25-12.
The trio of Sophia Long, Sierra Derossett and Delaney Walters each had two kills. Mckenna Hawblitzel had seven aces and Katie Schmidt five aces. Kylie Prater, Allie McGuire and Derossett each had seven digs and Schmidt had nine assists.
The freshman Tigers, now 2-0, will play at Huntington North Thursday. The freshman and JV matches both start at 6 p.m. with the varsity immediately following.
