Dragons Capture Series Finale
DAYTON, Ohio – Despite a solid start from J.C. Cosme, the TinCaps dropped the series finale to the Dayton Dragons, 4-0, on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
Cosme (L, 8-7) tossed five innings of two-run ball, but the Dragons (20-33 second half, 41-82 overall) scored a run in the third, another in the fourth and two in the eighth to complete the four-game sweep of the TinCaps (20-33, 56-67), who only scored two runs in the series.
Dayton pushed across a run in the bottom of the third inning. After Josciel Veras and Mitch Piatnik moved into scoring position on back-to-back one-out hits, Veras scored on an RBI groundout from Daniel Sweet.
The Dragons then added another in the home fourth when Alberti Chavez plated James Vasquez with an RBI double to stretch it to 2-0.
Dayton took out an insurance policy in the eighth inning. Chris Okey’s RBI triple reeled in Nick Senzel, and Okey later scored on a wild pitch — doubling the lead to 4-0.
Dragons starter Ty Boyles (W, 5-8) fanned seven over five shutout stanzas.
The TinCaps return home Friday for a three-game set with Lake County, first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
