Beaman Home Ribbon Cutting
WARSAW — The Beaman Home celebrated a culmination of 30 years of serving domestic violence victims at the ribbon cutting ceremony at their new facility on 603 Parker St.
Tracie Hodson, Executive Director of the Beaman Home, spoke at the event. Hodson emphasized how far the Beaman Home has come since it’s humble beginning 30 years ago. Hodson explained the home began when a three bedroom home was donated to the cause of helping those struggling with domestic violence. The home first helped a woman who was sitting on the porch of the house waiting for them to open.
Over the last 30 years, the Beaman Home has expanded to meet the needs of victims. As the shelter grew, “The inadequacy of the current facility became glaringly obvious,” mentioned Hodson. Consequently, plans for building a new facility have been in the works for the last five years.
The portion of the facility that will be ready for residents by the end of the month will have four resident rooms and 16 beds. By next year, the Beaman Home plans to finish the upstairs of the facility and will have a total of 11 bedrooms with 38 beds.
