Wawasee Sports Wrap: Aug. 16
Girls Golf
The Wawasee girls golf team picked up a pair of wins Tuesday night. Wawasee shot a 188, its lowest nine-hole round of the season, to best Marian (203) and West Noble (256). Aubrey Schmeltz led Wawasee with a 40. Madison Beaman (46), Zoe White (50), Jadison Rostochak (52) and Lesley Tayagua (61) rounded out the scores for the Warriors.
Boys Soccer
Westview opened up its season with a 10-1 win over Wawasee at home.
The Warriors had 10 shots on goal but only Zeb Glon was able to crack the code. He scored an equalizer in the 15th minute on an assist from Brady Wickersham.
Wawasee (0-1) host South Bend Riley Thursday.
Girls XC
The girls cross country team opened up with a sweep of a quad meet at Ox Bow Park Tuesday evening. Wawasee defeated NorthWood, Fairfield and Bremen to move to 3-0 on the season.
Elizabeth Zorn had the top time of all competitors as she clocked in at a 21:36.10. Erica Stutsman of NorthWood was second (22:37.30) while Wawasee’s Aubrey Kuhn rounded out the the top three with a time of 22:44.10.
McKenzie Smith (22:59.50) and Bailey Schroeder (24:08.00) also took top 10 spots for the Warriors.
Wawasee will run next Saturday in the NorthWood Invitational.
Boys XC
Wawasee’s boys cross country team enjoyed a clean sweep to start its season. The Warriors defeated NorthWood, Fairfield and Bremen at Ox Bow Tuesday night.
The Warriors claimed four of the top six spots in their winning efforts with Spencer Hare leading the way with his time of 18:26.20. Hare was second overall behind NorthWood’s Emanuel Olvera (18:17.90).
Tyler Evers (18:49.40) of NorthWood took third but was then followed by Wawasee’s Sam Griner (18:56.90), Luke Griner (19:10.50) and Bennett Hoffert (19:16.20). Thomas Conley (20:25.60) also had a top 10 finish for the Warriors.
Wawasee (3-0) will compete in the NorthWood Invitational next Saturday.
