Myers RBI Keys Cubs Win
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Connor Myers hit a two-run single in the seventh inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to a 3-2 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Monday.
Pedro Araujo allowed a run, but struck Manny Sanchez out with runners on second and third to end the game for his third save of the season.
The single by Myers capped a three-run inning and gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead after Vimael Machin hit an RBI single earlier in the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bowling Green cut into the lead on a single by David Olmedo-Barrera that scored Michael Russell.
South Bend right-hander Casey Bloomquist (8-6) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on just five hits over seven innings. Opposing starter Blake Bivens (6-4) took the tough loss in the Midwest League game after giving up two runs and three hits over 6 2/3 innings.
The two teams will battle in the Commonwealth Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.
