Board Approves Appropriation For Ambulance Chassis
The Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board Monday, Aug. 8, approved a request for $36,360 in additional appropriations to pay for the chassis for the fire territory’s new ambulance. The vehicle is scheduled to be delivered next month.
The money will be taken from the township’s rainy day fund.
Township Trustee Barb Griffith reported the rainy day and township assistance funds have a surplus so no tax levies are needed next year to replenish those funds.
For the other funds — general, recreation, special fire service and protection territory equipment — the net 2017 tax rate will be 15.15 cents per $100 of assessed property value.
Griffith also reported the renovation of Byers Cemetery has been completed and she is “very pleased with the results.”
Approximately 200 grave markers were remediated during the year-long project.
In other business, Fire Chief Mickey Scott reported:
• The fire department will schedule another CPR course when enough persons sign up for the class. The course is open to the public. To sign up or for more information, call (574) 457-4100 or (574) 457-5507.
• The department will provide EMS standby at the Syracuse Community Center and will assist with traffic control for the Saturday, Aug. 13, Wawasee Kiwanis Club triathlon.
• The annual firefighter MDA Fill-the-Boot drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intersection of Pickwick Drive and South Huntington Street.
The next regular meeting of the board will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Syracuse Town Hall.
