Cubs Pitching Shuts Out TinCaps
SOUTH BEND – The Cubs starting pitching continued its recent strong performance as South Bend shutout Fort Wayne 2-0 Wednesday at Four Winds Field.
Ryan Kellogg threw five and two-thirds scoreless innings scattering two hits as he earned his fifth win. Kellogg extended the Cubs starting pitching’s consecutive innings streak without allowing an earned run to 28 and a third innings.
Tanner Griggs fired two and a third scoreless frames to earn the hold. Carson Sands picked up his first pro save with a spotless ninth inning.
South Bend recorded their tenth shutout of the season.
The Cubs wasted scoring chances in the first and second innings but cashed in against Jacob Nix in the third.
Albert Mineo picked up an RBI on a weakly hit ground ball to second base that was booted by Peter Van Gansen allowing Carlos Sepulveda to score to give South Bend a 1-0 lead. The advantage became 2-0 when Vimael Machin singled to left allowing P.J. Higgins to cross home plate.
Game two of the three game series is Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
