Black Sabbath played a major role in the development of heavy metal. The band pushed the boundaries of rock and pioneered the genre of heavy metal, beginning with their self-titled debut album in 1970. Black Sabbath released four albums in a two-year period while touring at a ceaseless pace. Difficult years followed in the mid-1970s as their popularity waned, and Osbourne left the band in 1978. The group reunited in 1997 and received a GRAMMY Award for Best Metal Performance in 1999. The band headlined Osbourne’s famed “Ozzfest” festival in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
