Donald C. Hatfield-UPDATED
Donald C. Hatfield, 75, Columbia City, passed away in his sleep Monday morning, Aug. 1, 2016, at his home. Born July 26, 1941, in Blue Lake of Whitley County, he was the son of Richard E., Sr. and Edna L. (Henline) Hatfield.
Growing up in Noble County, he attended Kendallville High School and then moved to Whitley County in 1958. Don went on to join the U.S. Army and went on to work 19 years for International Harvester in Fort Wayne and retired in August 2003 from BRC Rubber Co. in Churubusco. On Oct.14, 2006, Don married Lois I. (Hart) Workman in Columbia City. He attended First Church of God and was a talented piano player, playing just by sound. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood.
Survivors include his loving wife: Lois Hatfield; daughter: Angie (Tim) Bridegam, Columbia City; brother: Steve (Norma) Hatfield, South Whitley; stepsons: J.C. (LuAnn) Workman, Churubusco; and John (Chris) Workman, Columbia City; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Jennifer Bunger on July 2; brothers: Richard Hatfield in 2010; and Jack Hatfield in 2014; and a stepdaughter: Joy Church in 1997.
A memorial gathering will take place from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, with a service to follow at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Memorial gifts may be given towards a brick being engraved in Don’s memory at Burnworth Pool’s aquatics project, I.C.O Lois Hatfield.
