Jimenez Slams, Cubs Win Slugfest
EASTLAKE, Ohio – Eloy Jimenez hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, leading the South Bend Cubs to an 11-7 win over the Lake County Captains on Friday.
The grand slam by Jimenez, part of a six-run inning, gave the Cubs a 6-2 lead before Roberto Caro hit a two-run single later in the inning.
The Cubs later tacked on three runs in the sixth when Vimael Machin hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run double by Tyler Alamo to secure the victory.
South Bend starter Kyle Miller (5-2) picked up the win despite allowing five runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings. Opposing starter Casey Shane (5-9) took the loss in the Midwest League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and eight hits over four innings.
Willi Castro singled four times, scoring two runs for the Captains. Juan De La Cruz doubled and singled twice, driving in three runs.
With the win, South Bend improved to 11-4 against Lake County this season.
