Caps Held To Two In Double Dip
BELOIT, Wisc. – Beloit held Fort Wayne to just two runs in a twin bill Monday, winning 5-1 and 2-1 in a doubleheader at Pohlman Field.
The Snappers’ bats went to work in the first game, picking up hit from six different players, but Fort Wayne struck first. The TinCaps started off the evening by scoring in the top of the second inning. Marcus Greene hit a sacrifice fly out to center fielder Skye Bolt which gave Brad Zunica enough time to tag up and score.
Beloit tied it up in the bottom of the fourth inning when Edwin Diaz scored on a Brett Siddall double.
An inning later Robert Martinez scored on a Diaz groundout and Chris Iriart rapped a three-run homer to give Beloit some cushion.
Evan Manarino (W, 8-5) contributed significantly on the mound by only giving up six hits and tacking on five strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Jared Lyons (S, 5) got the last two outs for the save.
Game two TinCaps starter Anderson Espinoza finished with four hits allowed, two runs and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings on the hill but got no help at the plate. Austin Allen got the lone RBI for the Caps, a sharp single in the first, bringing home Peter Van Gansen.
Snappers starting pitcher Brendan Butler (W, 1-0) made his debut, giving up three hits, one run and notching four strikeouts. Tyler Willman picked up the save.
Beloit scored its first run in the fifth on a Jordan Devencenzi single. Diaz would drive in Devencenzi later in the inning to give Butler and the Snappers enough room to close the deal.
Fort Wayne (46-55) is off Tuesday and begin a series at home Wednesday with West Michigan.
