Activities At The North Webster Public Library
NORTH WEBSTER — The Summer Reading Program of the North Webster Community Public Library is winding down. Saturday, July 30 is the last day to earn prizes. Kids must have reading hours turned in by that date. Over 400 youth have logged more than 5,000 hours of reading time. To celebrate, the library will host a Grand Finale Picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 3, in the North Webster Community Center Gym. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. for games, prizes, and awards followed by a hotdog supper at 6:00 p.m. for participants and their families. Every child who turned in at least five hours during the summer gets a free souvenir cup. The library will close early at 5:00 p.m. that day so the entire staff can celebrate with the kids.
Sending cards is a popular way to celebrate. Learn to make greeting cards at the Make and Take Card Class at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. This is a popular class taught the first Thursday each month by Jan Biehl and Hope Beezley. It only costs $7 and includes all card making supplies needed. In addition, individuals will be able to take home cards made in class. Pre-registration is required. Sign up at the Circulation Desk or call 574-834-7122.
Let’s Move meets every Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. to dance for fun and fitness. They use dance videos, learn dance steps, try a variety of dancing styles, and get a great workout while having a good time. Let’s Move is for adults only. No registration is needed.
With so many books and movies in the library, it can be a little overwhelming for people to find ones they think they will enjoy. The library has a handy online tool to make selections easier and faster. BookPsychic is a personal recommendation service that allows individuals to browse books, e-book, audio books, and DVDs on the library’s website. It enables people to view synopses, place holds, and rate books and movies they have read. BookPsychic then makes personal recommendations based on what individuals have liked before. The more items rated, the more customized the recommendations are on personal preferences. Individuals can create a personal BookPsychic account from the library’s website and start discovering great books and movies selected just for them.
