First Inaugural Car Show Held At Oakwood Resort July 24
SYRACUSE — More than 30 cars were on display at the the first inaugural car show, hosted by Oakwood Resort and Syracuse-Wawasee Parks Foundation, Sunday, July 24. The turn out was better than expected, said event organizers.
“We are really surprised at the turnout,” said J.R. Parent, owner of Oakwood Resort.
The car show was a benefit for the Syracuse-Wawasee Trails Committee. All the proceeds from the car show will benefit the Syracuse-Wawasee Parks Foundation to fund the continuance of the trails around Lake Wawasee.
The Current Classic Award was given to Jerry Collins for his 1958 Corvette. Collins, a Marion resident, brought six of his cars to the show. “I think it’s a great thing they put this on,” he said.
The Future Classic Award went to Bill Johnson for his 1996 Porsche.
People’s Choice Award was given to M.J. Parent for his 1989 Porsche.
The Marquis Class Award (cars valued $100,000-plus) was given to Mark Hollar of Cromwell. He brought his 1969 Yenko Camaro to the show. He paid $2,000 for the car in 1984. The car is now estimated at over $500,000, he said.
Megan McClellan, the trails’ executive director, said about $715 was raised at the car show (at press time).
“For an inaugural car show, this is a fantastic turn out,” she said. “I appreciate how supportive this community has been and I thank Oakwood for hosting it.”
