Joan A. Walters-UPDATED
Joan A. Walters, 85, Columbia City, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. Born Jan. 14, 1931 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of August and Lula (Beeching) Beerwert.
She graduated from Coesse High School with the Class of 1949. She spent her working career as a secretary. She had lived in Roanoke and Lake Barbee and currently was living at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Columbia City. Joan enjoyed reading and spending her time at the library North Webster.
Survivors include her two nephews: Joe (Fe) Beerwert, Columbia City; and John Beerwert, Irvine, Calif.; and two great-nieces; and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert Walters; and brothers: Dilman J. Beerwert, who was killed on a flight mission during WWII in the Pacific Theater; and Benjamin Burton Beerwert, in February 2015.
Visitation will be held form 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, Columbia City. Her funeral service will follow. She will be laid to rest by her brother Ben at the South Whitley Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made towards her final expenses I.C.O. of DeMoney-Grimes.
