Lona P. Hughes
Lona P. Hughes, 86, passed peacefully to be with her Lord while a patient in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was blessed to be surrounded by her loving family.
The daughter of Malcom and Plina (Ousley) Prater, Lona was born in Prestonsburg, Ky., April 10, 1930. Also in Prestonsburg and on Oct. 14, 1946, she and Charles Hughes were joined in marriage. They moved to Silver Lake, where they would spend the remainder of their lives together until Charles’ passing on Sept. 22, 2006.
A homemaker, Lona was a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Silver Lake, where she enjoyed caring for children of the church. Working in her vegetable and flower garden was enjoyable to her. Not only did she feed and watch birds she talked to the turtle doves getting them to occasionally flutter down to her feet.
Lona will be missed by her family including two sons and a daughter-in-law: Pastor Carl (Jane) Hughes, Silver Lake; and Harles Hughes, Ohio; a brother: Ed Prater, Silver Lake; two sisters: Arizona “Zonie” Sears, Wabash; and Lizzy Whitaker, Marion, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Lona was preceded in her passing by a son: Charles R. Hughes, on Feb. 14, 2000; parents: Malcom and Plina Prater; two brothers: Tait Prater; and Asbury Prater; and three sisters: Roxie Hale; Ally Hale; and Lola Robinson.
Friends and family will gather to share memories in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake, beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21. Pastor Ron Patrick of New Beginnings Church and World Outreach in Warsaw, will officiate. Burial will take place in Center Cemetery, Silver Lake.
The family has asked that gifts in Lona’s memory be given to Full Gospel Pentecostal Church.
