Cubs Split DH At Clinton
CLINTON, Iowa – South Bend and Clinton each took a game Thursday as part of a doubleheader. The rainout Wednesday night had South Bend rally for a 5-4 win after Clinton won the day’s first game, 3-0 in a pair of seven-inning contests.
In South Bend’s nightcap win, the Cubs scored all five of its runs in the top of the seventh inning. PJ Higgins had two of the RBIs. Higgins had three hits in the game while Donnie Dewees, Jesse Hodges and Carlos Sepulveda each had two hits.
Casey Bloomquist (7-4) picked up the win in relief, giving up two runs and striking out five. Dillon Maples got the save, working the seventh.
Dalton Kelly had two hits and scored two runs for the Lumberkings.
In game one, Alex Jackson, Conner Hale and Logan Taylor all had RBI singles for Clinton. Starting pitcher Ronald Dominguez worked into the seventh, allowing just five hits and striking out seven while Matt Walker got the last two outs for the save.
Preston Morrison (9-4) worked 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits but just one earned run, striking out six.
South Bend and Clinton finish up the series Friday night with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
