LEESBURG — Indiana Conservation Officers and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to search for John J. Forbes Sr., 70, of Chicago. Conservation Officers are continuing to utilize side scan sonar to image the bottom of the lake.
The rough lake conditions and overall depth of Lake Tippecanoe have made the search difficult and lengthy. It is believed that the victim could be in depths greater than 100 feet.
According to the preliminary investigation, Forbes was swimming on Lake Tippecanoe from a Tri-Toon boat with his wife, son and family friend when he went under the water and never resurfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time of his disappearance.
Conservation Officers want to remind everyone to wear a coast guard approved life jacket every time they’re on or near the water.
