North Webster Offering EMT Classes
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Tippecanoe TWP Fire/EMS Education will be sponsoring classes for the New Advanced EMT. The classes will be held at 499 West Washington St., North Webster.
An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, or AMET, is a step between the EMT- Basic and Paramedic.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians may function as part of a tiered response system. In all cases, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians work alongside other EMS and healthcare professionals as an integral part of the emergency care team.
The course is designed to prepare you with more than an advance understanding of emergency medicine compared to the Basic EMT. Advanced EMT’s are accountable for everything that an EMT-Basic performs along with more specialized life saving skills. Although not trained to the level of a Paramedic, Advanced EMT’s are able to provide more advanced care by utilizing specialized training such as intravenous access, administration of emergency care medications and provide advanced cardiac procedures for patients needing such procedures as a part of their care.
Topics within the course will include patient assessment, body systems, trauma, oxygen administration, automatic defibrillation, manual defibrillation, ECG interpretation, IV therapy, pharmacology, primary care medicine, advanced assessment, management of shock and cardiac arrest, respiratory emergencies, endocrine emergencies, environmental among a few.
The objective of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or AEMT program of study is The Advanced EMT is designed to take students from Basic to Advanced Life Support skills. Advanced life support and patient assessment in the time of crisis are the main skills learned.

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician course, students will be eligible to test with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) to gain their Advanced EMT Certification.
In order to be eligible for the Advanced EMT course you must be 18 years of older with a high school diploma or GED. You must already be a current certified EMT in Indiana or NREMT.
North Webster Tippecanoe TWP Fire/EMS Education will be sponsoring the classes for the New Advanced EM. The classes will be held at 499 West Washington St., North Webster. Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 and will end Thursday, April 27, 2017. This will be a night class from 6 to 10 p.m. Classes will be on Tuesday and thursday nights.
