ORLEANS, MASS. — A 6-year-old boy from Houston caught a great white shark while fishing off the coast of Cape Cod Sunday afternoon.
Blake White was holding the fishing rod on his grandfather’s boat when he felt a huge tug.
At first he thought he reeled in a big tuna, but it turns out he caught a 10-12 foot shark!
The great white never bit the bait, it was actually hooked on the boat’s trolling rig.
The shark was caught for 90 minutes, until Blake’s dad cut him loose.
“I first thought it was a giant Yellowfin tuna,” Blake said. “I did pass the rod to my dad because it was too heavy.”
“I calmly told the kids to sit in the middle of the boat, down low and we took a few pictures, and as soon as we could get it in close enough, we cut the line and set him on his way,” said Lars White, Blake’s dad.
