Commissioners Discuss Construction Projects And Economic Updates
KOSCIUSKO — Today, Tuesday, July 12 the Kosciusko County Commissioners met to discuss construction projects and economic updates.
Kosciusko County Economic Development Corporation President George Robertson came before the commissioners to give an economic quarterly update.
Robertson said it was an excellent year last year. The county had 850 new manufacturing jobs and $65 million of capital investment.
Robertson said this year “They [new manufacturing jobs] are all hiring. The projects are done, the equipment is in, the buildings are done, so our challenge as it has been over the last several years is to really create the work force those employers will need for their expansions.”
To create the work force needed Ivy Tech is working with the Warsaw Career Center to help High School students become skilled labor as machinists or welders.
The commissioners were asked to approve an Internal Control Policy for Kosciusko County, per the Indiana State Board of Accounts. The policy requires extra training for anyone who has access to county funds. Kosciusko County Commissioner President Ron Truex stated, “So, it’s more cumbersome help from the state …”
When asked what would happen happen if they didn’t approve of the policy. Michelle Puckett, county auditor, replied, “If it’s not filed with the annual report we will not be compliant … ” Not being being compliant could delay budget certification. It was approved.
Scott Tilden, county highway superintendent, was given approval from the commissioners to apply for a Community Crossings Grant and to also open bids for construction and repaving of roads. There are three road projects at approximately eight miles Tilden wants to open bids for: County Farm Road between CR 200S and CR 700S, CR 350W between Old Road 30 and New 30 and Old SR 15, between Levi Lee and Armstrong Road.
