Fowler In Town, Hot Rods Don’t Care
SOUTH BEND – Bowling Green spoiled Dexter Fowler Night at Four Winds Field as the Hot Rods beat the South Bend Cubs Saturday 5-3 in 10 innings.
Chicago Cubs All-Star outfielder Fowler came to the plate four times in the contest. The 30-year old walked in his first two trips to the plate. In the sixth inning Fowler grounded into a double play before striking out in the ninth.
Fowler is expected to start in center field for South Bend Saturday.
Bowling Green pulled out the win thanks to a two run tenth inning as Brett Sullivan and David Rodriguez produced run scoring doubles to put the Hot Rods in front 5-3.
South Bend’s runs all came off the bat of Carlos Sepulveda.
The 19-year old second baseman delivered two runs with a bases loaded single in the second inning to close South Bend to within 3-2.
Sepulveda tied the game in the sixth as he picked up an RBI infield scoring Jesse Hodges.
Game two of the Four Winds Field series is Saturday at 7:05 p.m. with South Bend starting on the mound Adbert Alzolay (5-4, 4.33)
