Volunteer Expo To Highlight Role Of Service Organizations
SYRACUSE — Volunteer organizations are banding together to showcase everything they do for the communities within the Wawasee Community School Corp. district. The result of their collaboration will be a Volunteer Expo from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Syracuse Community Center.
“We want everybody there,” Larry Rensberger, who is helping organize the event, said. “We want to show the community how many (volunteer organizations there are) and what all the volunteer organizations do.” Ultimately, the goal is to get individuals involved by encouraging them to join one of the many organizations available while also supporting a local cause, namely Boomerang Backpacks.
The event will start at 8 a.m. with a freewill donation breakfast, with all of the proceeds benefiting Boomerang Backpacks.
Many volunteer organizations — spanning from Lions, Kiwanis and Rotary clubs to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Knights of Columbus and more — have already signed up to help with and participate in the expo. Rensberger said he already has more than 20 different volunteer organizations down as participants.
Volunteer organizations will have their own booths set up during the expo, where they will display information about what they do and how to get involved. These displays will continue until about noon.
Be on the lookout for fliers about the expo as Aug. 20 approaches. Rensberger added any volunteer organization within the Wawasee school district area can participate in the Volunteer Expo.
