Ardith A. Smith, 87, Columbia City, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn. Born on June 21, 1929, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of David A. and Jennie C. (Quinn) Weigold.
Ardith was a lifetime Noble County resident and resided near the Noble/Whitley County Line. She attended Wolf Lake High School. Ardith married Paul E. Smith on July 23, 1948, in Big Lake.
Ardith worked at Wolf Lake Products, Wolf Lake, until her retirement in 1991. She was a former Red Hat Strutter and also enjoyed bird watching.
Survivors include her daughters: Vicki (James) Carnahan, Angola; and Sherri (Garry) Hitzfield, Kimmell; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister: Phyllis Hull, Columbia City; brother: Doyle (Marge) Weigold, Columbia City; sisters-in-law: Joan Weigold; Catherine Weigold; and Elizabeth Smith, all of Columbia City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Paul E. Smith; brothers: Larry; and Herbert Weigold; and sister: Doris Gravitt; granddaughter: Dawn Kirkpatrick; and brother-in-law: Gail “Bud” Smith.
In accordance with Ardith’s wishes there will be no calling or funeral services at this time. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial in Thorn Cemetery, Ormas.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ardith may be made to the American Heart Association or to Riley Children’s Hospital.
