Charges Filed In Cass County Pageant Queen’s Death
CASS COUNTY — Almost two months after a Cass County teen pageant queen was killed in a car accident, a man was charged in connection to Makayla McKenzie’s death.
Jeffrey Jackson, 25, was charged with moving violation causing death and serious injury, after disregarding a stop sign and hitting McKenzie’s car.
Jail records show Jackson was booked into the Cass County jail Wednesday night, June 29. He’s being held on a $30,000 bond.
McKenzie, 16, died in the accident and one other girl, Hanna Philpot, 17, suffered a broken jaw as a result of the accident.
Police say Jackson was driving 61 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone near Pine Lake Road and Dailey Road.
Previously, the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office stated they would go through Jackson’s cell records to see if that could have contributed to the accident. On Wednesday night, Prosecutor Victor Fitz said there was no indication Jackson was using his cell phone at the time of the accident.
Jackson will be arraigned Thursday afternoon, June 30.
