Community Harvest Food Bank Gets $90,000 Grant
FORT WAYNE — Community Harvest Food Bank was awarded a $90,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation.
The president of the food bank and one shopper we talked to said many people rely on the food bank and the donations make all the difference.
This money will support the Healthy Families Initiative. That’s an effort which includes the Farm Wagon mobile pantry, Holiday Food, and the Community Cupboard pantry.
These programs serve more than 45,000 people year round.
Lincoln Financial often donates to Community Harvest. But a donation like this will largely help feed the growing population of those in need.
“Summer months are even more, especially for the kids. They’re out of school so they’re not getting those meals through the school system. So, again, 365 days a year people need assistance,” Carmen Griffith, president of Community Harvest Food Bank, said.
“It’s necessary in the community and in the last few years many people who have never gone to food pantries before in the past are having to seek this type of assistance,” Beth Moore, shopper, said.
The food bank is always looking specifically for meat and fruit donation.
They’re also celebrating a donation from Prairie Farms. Today, 500 gallons of milk were donated.
