BREAKING: Helicopter called for accident
SYRACUSE — A single male was injured in a single moped accident on CR 1300N east of Kern Road around 2:05 p.m. today. No other vehicle was involved.
The injured driver was initially going to be transported to Parkview Medical Center, Fort Wayne. However, the patient was later transported by ambulance.
Samaritan 2 helicopter, flying in from Rochester, arrived at the landing zone at Wawasee High School. The injured man was loaded into the air ambulance, but it never took off.
According to information at the landing zone, Samaritan 2 medical helicopter encountered mechanical issues when the helicopter was prepared to take off. Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded with a tanker and the patient was transferred back to the ambulance to be transported. Samaritan medical crew traveled with the ambulance.
The helicopter was able to fly from the scene after a short cool down period.
