Bonnie Lea Newton
Bonnie Lea Newton, 91, Winona Lake, went to be with her Lord at 6:57 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at her residence surrounded by family.
She was a resident of Kosciusko County since 1948. She was a member of First Christian Church of Warsaw and a former member of Burket United Methodist Church. Bonnie was a 1943 graduate of Marion High School, and attended Indiana University. Bonnie was a great cook and passionate about her Lord and Savior and, if you knew her, you always came away filled to overflowing.
The Resting Place Christian Retreat she established in her home in Burket touched the lives of many both near and far. Bonnie was a bride of Christ with unconditional love to all her family and others. She had a gift that made everyone feel special. Her many titles in life included a WWII army nurse, wife, mother, friend, Sunday School teacher and bible study leader.
Bonnie was born on June 4, 1925, in Wabash, to Kenneth John Ivans and Verda Pearl (Anderson) Ivans. On Jan. 8, 1950, she was married to Stanley Lawrence Newton, who passed away on Feb. 29, 1980.
She leaves behind two sons: Jerry (Linda) Newton, Warsaw; Andrew (Veronica) Newton, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters: Connie (John) Brown, Claypool; and Nancy (Marty) Noble, Snohomish, Wash. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter: Sally; and her son: Daniel J. Newton in 2006.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, at First Christian Church of Warsaw, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Jeremy Welch. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Bonnie’s name may be directed to First Christian Church of Warsaw, Warsaw; or to Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, Warsaw, and would be appreciated by the family.
