Art In Action: Things To Do In The Area This Month

WARSAW — The Brenda Stichter exhibit will open at Warsaw City Hall this week. More information on Stichter and her work will be available in next week’s column but her exciting exhibit of abstract work will be open at Warsaw City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 22 and will be available for two months. You will want to see the colorful creativity of this artist while you take a break from “walking and wandering” all the great statues by Seward Johnson that Paula Davis, Suzie Light, Melodie Koher and their team have worked to bring to our community! Maps of the location of each statue are available in the Warsaw City Hall.
Meantime, area artists will want to consider entering the Akron Area Arts League 5th annual Fourth of July Festival and competition to be held at the Akron Community Center in Akron. This competition is open to members and non-members in any FINE ART medium such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel graphite, photography, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts, etc. Work will be judged in one of three classes:
1. Professional
2. Amateur
3. Theme- “Reflections of Indiana.”
Over $900 in prizes will be given out. Entries should be delivered from 5-7 p.m. July 1 at the Akron Community Center. Find out more here.
Beginners to jewelry making or pastel art will want to know about two workshops coming up at the Lakeland Art Association gallery located at 302 E. Winona Ave. All classes must be paid in advance and you need to register at the gallery or phone (574) 267-5568 as seats are limited.
A two-day Precious Metal Clay Pendent or Earrings creation class will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday July 12, and Tuesday July 19. Students must be 12 or older and the $65 per student fee includes supplies.
A pastel class is being offered by John Streeter, an award winning pastel artist from Chicago. You will learn the principles of pastel painting and you will take home a finished, framed, and ready to hang work of which you can be very proud. Must be 18 years or older and have some art experience. The cost is $65 per student, supplies included except for the towel you need to bring for cleaning. Register by July 9, seats are filling quickly. This class will be July 16 from 10 am to noon.
