Lyle Blair
Lyle Errol Blair, 76, Columbia City, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne, where he had resided since July 2015.
He was born April 7, 1940, in Unity, Clark County, Wis., a son of Herman and Eunice (Holmes) Blair. His formative years were spent in the Abbotsford area. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1958, received his Bachelor degree from University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire in 1965, and advanced schooling at Northwestern University in the Banking Trust School in 1975, and the School of Bank Administration at University of Wisconsin in 1980.
On April 30, 1966, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Sue Hurd. They made their home in West Allis and Muskego until moving to the Columbia City area in 2005. They have enjoyed spending time at their second home in Blairsville, Ga.
From 1965 until 1996 he worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Administration, was an instructor at the FDIC Trust School in Washington D.C. from 1990 until 1996, and retired from First Banking Center in Burlington, Wis. in 2000.
His church affiliation is with the Methodist church. He enjoyed maintaining his lawn and lawn equipment. He also enjoyed listening to music and working to upgrade his sound system.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 50 years: Charlotte; a brother: Eugene (Verna) Blair, Colby, Wis.; three nephews and two nieces: Randy Blair; Douglas Blair; Dudley Blair; Christine Gust; and Carl Steno; and his faithful dog: Rocky. His parents; and a son: David Lorren Blair preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wisconsin. The burial will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to David L. Blair Memorial Scholarship Fund, Humane Society of Whitley County or Community Foundation of Whitley County.
