Juveniles Missing On River Found Safe, UAV Used
MARSHALL COUNTY — Two juveniles missing on the Tippecanoe River Saturday, June 11, were found safe and reunited with parents, according to a release by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. The use of unmanned aerial vehicle systems assisted in locating the missing juveniles.
At approximately 6:28 p.m. Saturday, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department obtained information two juveniles were lost or missing on the Tippecanoe River, between SR 19 and the public access, located in Tippecanoe. The juveniles and parents became separated and the parents became worried, making contact with authorities for assistance.
The agencies involved in the search/investigation were: Indiana Conservation Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Tippecanoe Fire Department. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department obtained an air plane to assist in searching the area.
UAVs are becoming increasingly popular for recreational enthusiasts and are becoming essential part of investigations and uses for law enforcement. The Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman purchased an UAV for the sheriff’s department. It assisted in searching a large area along the river, with reduced manpower.
