Willnetta E. Miles
Willnetta E. Miles, 100, departed this life June 10 at her home. She moved to Rochester in 2001.
Born Aug. 21, 1915, in Greenwood, Willnettta Eileen McNeely was the cherished daughter of Carry Elmer McNeely and Florence Emily Aaron. As a child she lived on a farm near Greenwood with her grandparents, Lewis and Artema Aaron. An honor student, she graduated from Whiteland High School, Whiteland, in 1933.
On June 10 of that summer, Willnetta married Luke Millard Miles. She spent 25 years as a dedicated farm wife and raised five children who survive: Richard Miles (Diane), Penny Peters (Chuck), Donald Miles (Judy), John Miles (Cathy), and Cindy Crump (Jack). Other survivors include grandchildren Bruce, Leslie, Matt, Tom, Phil, Krista, Will and Jeremy. Great-grandchildren are Emily, Seth, Brittany, Trevor, Laura and twins Gillian and Margo. Willnetta had three great-great granddaughters, Anna, Ellie and Aleah, Her only great-great grandson, Emmit Scott, was born on the morning of the day she passed away. Also surviving is her loving companion, confidant and friend, Debbie Horn, who made her last eight years a secure, happy and joyous experience. Willnetta is pre-deceased by her parents and former husband.
Willnetta was a life-long gardener, an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, a watercolorist, and a published poet.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Willnetta E. Miles will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. Friends may visit with her family from 11 until the time of her service. A 3:45 pm graveside service for the family will precede burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood.
