Power Outage Expected Most Of Day Due To Accident
SYRACUSE — An accident at 6:30 a.m. today, June 9, on Harkless Drive, north of Bowser Road, will have approximately 46 customers without power for most of the day. Harkless Drive between Bowser Road and the entrance to Oakwood Resort will remain closed until repairs are complete.
Syracuse Police Officer Capt. Calvin Kline reports the unnamed driver was southbound on Harkless when he swerved to miss an animal. The driver’s vehicle, a crew cab pickup truck, struck a NIPSCO pole, allegedly causing the pole to break off. The weight of the lines broke off a second pole.
The driver was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital by Turkey Creek Township EMS with unknown injuries.
NIPSCO crews have been at the scene since approximately 8 a.m. Initial reports indicated over 200 customers were affected by the downed lines. According to NIPSCO’s power outage center, 46 customers remain affected.
