Linda A. Harney, 75, Huntington, died at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington. VFW Post #2689 Ladies Auxiliary evening services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, immediately following visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Raymond Scribner officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services for Huntington County, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington.
Linda was born on July 10, 1940, in Andrews, the daughter of J. Claude and Sarah (Miller) Garretson. She was a 1961 graduate of Andrews High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Huntington University and a Master’s degree from Ball State University. She married Kenneth L. Harney on June 25, 1960, in Andrews; he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2004. She taught for the Huntington County Community School Corporation Horace Mann Elementary and she taught at Huntington Catholic School. Linda worked at Wabash Technologies, Huntington, as the office secretary for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Huntington, where she taught kindergarten Sunday school for 20 years. She was a member of VFW Post #2689 Ladies Auxiliary, in which she was former Secretary-Treasurer, and she was a member of Huntington Genealogy Club. Linda enjoyed bowling and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters: Renee (Tony) Downing, New Berlin, Wis.; Lisa (Charles) Bremer, Claypool; and Julie Fields, Huntington; a brother: Michael Garretson, Mishawaka; a sister: Claudia (Henry) Machall, Roanoke; five grandchildren: Craig Tackett; Brandon Tackett; Kenyon Green; Branson Green; and Preston Downing; and five great-grandchildren. Her parents; and her husband precede her in death.
