Hollinger-Janzen Honored By Big Ten
CHICAGO, IL — Indiana men’s soccer’s Femi Hollinger-Janzen was named one of the Big Ten’s Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2015-16 academic year. Hollinger-Janzen was on of 28 honorees chosen from a group of more than 350 students honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Hollinger-Janzen recently completed his tremendous, four-year career with the Hoosiers. The Goshen, Ind. native was a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten selection and a two-time All-Region honoree – including first-team accolades this past year.
During his freshman season in 2012, Hollinger-Janzen made an immediate impact for IU, helping the team win the program’s eighth national title. Hollinger-Janzen was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal against Creighton in the College Cup semifinal. Hollinger-Janzen was also named to Soccer America’s All-Freshman Second Team and to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team.
For his career, Hollinger-Janzen started 60 of the 88 matches in which he appeared for the Hoosiers, totaling 22 goals and eight assists. This past season, Hollinger-Janzen set career highs with eight goals and five assists.
This past January, Hollinger-Janzen was taken with the 51st overall selection by the New England Revolution in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, becoming the 44th IU player selected in the MLS Draft since the league’s inception in 1996.
As a rookie, Hollinger-Janzen has made an immediate impact for the Revolution, appearing in 10 matches, totaling two goals and an assist. Against the Seattle Sounders on May 28, Hollinger-Janzen scored the game-winning goal for New England. He was also named the Revolution’s Man of the Month for May.
